Sultan reshuffles Cabinet

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to appoint new Cabinet Ministers and deputy ministers yesterday.

In a special titah broadcast over radio and television, the monarch said, “I believe it is time to reshuffle the current Cabinet Ministers and deputy ministers. Judging by the importance of such reshuffle, I have decided to the appointment of new Cabinet Ministers and deputy ministers as follows.”

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah is the Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim, His Majesty’s Special Adviser and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs.

Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman is the Minister of Religious Affairs.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.

His Majesty said the Cabinet reshuffle and appointment took effect beginning yesterday for a period of five years.

The monarch noted that that the posts of State Mufti and Attorney General have ministerial ranks.

“These appointments manifest trust that should be shouldered responsibly and no one should neglect the trust as it resembles pure agreement with Allah the Almighty.”

His Majesty concluded his titah by expressing his appreciation and gratitude to those who are not appointed in the reshuffle for their meritorious service all these years.

“May Allah the Almighty give multiple rewards and everlasting happiness to them,” the monarch said.

New appointments take effect from January 30, 2018 for a period of five years.
