Hackathon sets sight on solving real world problems
on: December 14, 2016 | In: National
B{CODE} is Brunei’s first national level hackathon, which aims to bring innovators, developers, and key stakeholders together to collaboratively solve real world problems.
The initiative seeks to engage and tap into the local community with the objective of providing participants with a platform to showcase their talent and coding skills.
The goal of this hackathon is to encourage innovation, stimulate ideas and drive creativity among local businesses, students from higher institutions, as well as members of the public.
The theme of the competition centers around tackling and coming up with solutions to challenges that Brunei is currently facing, through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
A set of questions and problems that are to be addressed through this hackathon have already been developed and can be viewed at http://www.b-code.gov.bn.
The event hopes to foster sustainable solutions to the concerns faced by society today, thus encouraging businesses and the general public to develop ideas and suggestions on how to solve these problems.
It also hopes to raise awareness and encourage collaboration between public-private partner-ship in the development of ICT, and creating new opportunities for local industries in ICT sectors.
This hackathon is jointly organised by the e-Government National Centre (eGNC) and the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO), in collaboration with Brunei Microsoft Corporation.
Prizes for this competition include a grant of up to B$20,000 to develop the final product, one month mentorship at Microsoft Brunei, and six month access to the facilities provided at the iCentre.
Businesses, students and members of the public with ideas, knowledge or skills in developing ICT applications are invited to participate in the competition by submitting their details to data@egc.gov.bn.
Registration for this competition is open until January 15, 2017.
